S03 : Ep. 24 : The Importance of the United Nations SDGs in Education with Joel Lindsay

SDGs. The United Nations Sustainable Develop Goals - 17 goals to transform the modern world towards positive and sustainable change. Joel Lindsay (The President of the United Nations Association of Australia (UNAA) Young Professionals, Queensland) and I join forces to discuss all the details of the 2030 United Nations SDG agenda, and the importance of its integration into 21st century education. This episode discusses – What is an SDG? What does each goal stand for? Why is it important in today’s society and 21st century education? How can it be integrated into 21st century education? Following which, Joel humbly shares valuable advice for educators on incorporating SDGs into the education system as well as for students to embed and align themselves with this global agenda. Joel Lindsay is President of the United Nations Association of Australia (UNAA) Young Professionals, Queensland. For the last 3 years he has led the state committee in delivering engagement events and advocacy campaigns promoting the values and work of the United Nations to young Australians. In doing so, Joel uses the UN 2030 Sustainable Development Goals Agenda to drive awareness of the many issues raised by the program, focusing on reconciliation, climate change, gender equality and refugee and asylum seeker rights. Joel also serves on the UNAA National Young Professionals Committee, the UNAA national board as YP representative, and is an elected member of the UNAA Queensland committee.

Joel has lived and studied in the United States, England, New Caledonia, and France and has developed a keen interest in international affairs. He completed a Bachelor of International Studies at the University of Queensland in 2014 majoring in Peace and Conflict Studies, including a semester abroad at Sciences-Po, Paris. He returned in 2016, completing a Masters in International Relations, with a focus on foreign policy and climate politics. For the past three years, Joel has worked in Government policy, currently specialising in renewable energy and emissions reduction. Joel remains a passionate advocate for incorporating sustainability and improving social outcomes into all levels of decision making. Connect and engage!
